Research Associate, In Vitro Pharmacology

Overview

EnquBio is a technology-driven discovery and contract research organization (CRO) based in San Diego, providing biology-focused preclinical drug discovery services. We partner with biopharmaceutical clients to accelerate the development of novel therapeutics across a broad range of disease areas.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our In Vitro Pharmacology group to support the development, optimization, and execution of in vitro assays for drug screening. The successful candidate will play a key role in generating high-quality data across multiple discovery programs in a fast-paced CRO environment.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on experimental work, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a collaborative, science-driven setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine experimental assignments following established procedures, demonstrating an ability to identify deviations from accepted practices.
  • Prepare reagents, cell cultures, and assay materials with high reproducibility and accuracy.
  • Execute cell-based and biochemical assays to support drug screening and SAR studies.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including plate readers, liquid handling systems, and imaging platforms.
  • Analyze, interpret, and document experimental data using appropriate software tools.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant laboratory records using ELN/LIMS systems.
  • Support general laboratory operations, including inventory management and ordering supplies.
  • Operate independently on routine assignments while seeking guidance for new or complex tasks.
  • Work closely with supervisors and senior scientists to support project execution and departmental goals.
  • Execute job-specific tasks in compliance with applicable regulations, SOPs, and safety standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and assist other departments when needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field; or Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with cell-based and biochemical assays.
  • Experience supporting assays in 96 or 384-well formats for SAR screening.
  • Strong understanding of molecular and cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture and compound handling.
  • Familiarity with luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance, and radiometric detection methods is preferred.
  • Understanding of complex scientific procedures, with technical proficiency in molecular and cell biology.
  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems and high-throughput screening workflows is a big plus.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills for seamless teamwork.
  • Proficient in Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Physical Requirements

This role involves working in laboratory and office environments. Candidates must be able to:

  • Work with biohazardous materials and chemicals in compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures, including handling biological samples and research materials.
  • Wear required PPE including gloves, lab coat, respirator, and eye/face protection.
  • Stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; crouch, bend, twist, and reach as needed; perform tasks involving repetitive motions.
  • Routinely lift, push, or pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Work under standard laboratory environmental conditions.
  • Possess visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed laboratory work and data review.
